There’s a quiet joy in doing less and doing it better.
In a world obsessed with hustle and hyper-productivity, the temptation to fill every waking hour with activity is strong. But recently, I’ve been reminded of a simple truth: depth beats breadth.
Trying everything is exhausting. Pursuing a few meaningful things deeply? That’s where satisfaction lives.
The Pursuit of Focus
It started as a personal reflection - a re-evaluation of what truly energises me. My “keepers” list includes things like:
- Golf
- Reading and learning
- Writing
- Watching live sport (any level)
- Elite-level TV sport
Then there’s a handful of new pursuits I’m giving a go - like clay pigeon shooting, working out and drawing. And a few that I’ve trialled and left behind: running, cycling, music, gardening.
None of this is revolutionary. But it is intentional. And that makes all the difference.
Why It Matters in Life and Financial Planning
At Town Close, we see this same principle play out in the lives of our clients. Those who experience the most fulfilment aren’t doing “everything” - they’re doing a few things with purpose and care. That might mean simplifying a portfolio, consolidating goals or finally getting clarity on what their money is really for.
We believe financial wellbeing is about more than numbers. It’s about the freedom to focus, to live deliberately and to go deeper into the things that give life meaning.
Because a life with fewer distractions is not a life with less - it’s a life with more of what matters.
Money, Made Human.
