Most worry about investing isn't really about returns. It's the quiet question underneath - "am I doing the right thing?" - carried alone, year after year. We're here so you don't have to carry it on your own.

Your plan comes first, always. The investing serves the plan, never the other way round. So, before we talk about where your money sits, we want to understand what it's for: the life you're building, the people who matter, the point at which you can stop worrying about it.

From there, the investing itself is deliberately unexciting. Your money goes into one of two funds we manage ourselves. Market Growth, which leans towards companies and growth, and Market Defensive, which leans towards bonds and steadiness. Each fund is built from a focused set of around 20 to 25 holdings, and because those holdings are themselves broad, low-cost trackers and funds, your money ends up spread across many thousands of companies and a large pool of bonds. The growth approach is roughly three-quarters companies to one-quarter bonds; the defensive one, the other way round. No tips, no timing the market, no trying to shoot the lights out.

Markets rise and fall, that's how investing works. Temporary declines aren't a sign anything's wrong, and they only become a real loss if you sell into them. So a good deal of our job is simply helping you stay the course through the wobbles, because over the long run behaviour matters far more than cleverness.

Returns are never guaranteed, and anyone who tells you otherwise isn't worth listening to. But a patient, broadly spread approach, held with a steady hand, has historically served people well over time.
