How We Work

You might well have seen pages like this on other financial planning websites. A process, in five steps or seven or nine, each with a name and an arrow pointing to the next.

We aren’t led by a process, other than the one that’s needed to understand you and what’s important to you, and that means starting with a blank sheet of paper.
‍

What happens when I get in touch?

Most people come to us with something specific in mind – multiple pension pots, death, divorce, redundancy, money not working hard enough, tax, investment returns, expensive products. There’s always “something” and it is a real thing, and we will get to it.

But we don’t want to start with an answer because it’s more important to hear what’s going on in your life, and what matters to you and why.

Those are things that may not have been touched on before. If we don’t get round to your “something” the first time, that’s OK, it will keep – it simply means we got into what matters to you more than the “something”.
‍

Will I be rushed?

No. Some people know they want to get going with us after one conversation. Others need three or four. Both are normal, and the pace is yours. If it turns out you don’t need us, we’ll tell you.
‍

What happens once my plan is in place?

We stay. Most plans are fine on paper. What undoes them is a frightening week in the markets or a panicked decision before a Budget or a poor decision based on unsound thinking.

It’s better that we are there for those moments, catching up with you regularly, than trying to rescue something from the wreckage afterwards.
‍

What does it cost?

We charge a fixed fee for planning, in pounds - never a percentage of your money.

It’s a bit like building an extension: until we’ve talked through what you actually need, any figure would just be a guess, and a guess wouldn’t be fair to either of us.

So we agree the fee with you once we understand your situation - and you pay once the work’s done and you’re happy with it. The first conversations are free and unhurried.

Staying with you once the initial work is done has its own ongoing fee. It’s fixed in pounds too, agreed with you before it starts and then reviewed every two years.
