Wit, like vitamin C, needs regular topping up - Jeremy's Musings

There’s a quiet danger in coasting. Much like the body needs a steady supply of vitamin C to stay healthy, the mind requires regular nourishment. Not in the form of kale or supplements, but in the form of ideas - books, conversations, perspectives that stretch us beyond our current boundaries.

Neglect this, and something subtle starts to happen. The wits dull. Decision-making gets reactive. We begin winging it - improvising, relying on instinct over insight. And while there's a certain romance in "figuring it out as we go," it's a short-term strategy with a long-term cost.

Because when you're winging it, you're inching closer to the sun.

And once you fly too close, once you're operating beyond the edge of your understanding, recovery isn’t always straightforward. You risk a fall, or at the very least, a hard reset.

The antidote? Keep the mind in motion. Read, learn, reflect. Seek out the mental equivalent of a brisk walk and a glass of orange juice. It doesn’t take much, but it does take consistency.

Top up your wits, and you'll never need to flirt with danger. You'll navigate with clarity, not guesswork. And that’s a far better way to fly.
